TÍHIYA explores the meeting point between recognizable form and abstraction. The deer’s eyes and face create an immediate connection with the viewer, while the surrounding form gradually dissolves into expressive brushwork, drawn marks, layered texture, and vibrant color.
The title comes from the Kawaiisu word for deer, a reference to the Indigenous language traditionally spoken in the Tehachapi Mountains and to the deer that remain such a familiar presence in this landscape.
